For those who have the rare opportunity to live in a foreign country, there’s a constant role of tour guide as different family members come over for a visit.  As children in the U.K., we explored museums, cities, attractions and tourist sites that half the English neighbors hadn’t seen themselves.   But, the experiences my siblings and I had as children have encouraged my husband and me to live our lives here in the U.S. as tourists of sort, providing our children the opportunity to explore the vast array of cultural, historical, and natural offerings in our own backyard.  Sagamore Hill, the beloved home of President Theodore Roosevelt, is steps away from my parents home and is a local historic site that my children love to explore.  It’s steeped in rich all-American history, focused on nature and the environment, and nestled on the famed Gold Coast of Long Island.  This collection summons some of the patriotic spirit and sense of curiosity upon which Teddy Roosevelt – and children in general - thrived.
