A Penny For Your Thoughts

Top Ten Tuesday: Classic Family Fun with Kids Car Games

Part of my inspiration and influence in crafting Pennymeade was more than that English style to which I was exposed during the few years my family spent in England; it was equally a desire to recreate the simplicity that epitomized our life in England.  Of course, it was nothing out of the ordinary for the time—it was just the reality of the smart phone, email, internet-free world we were all lucky enough to have once lived in.  As our lives change, we tend to lose some of the “mother tongue” we passed down from generation to generation – hand-slapping playground...

Resort Wear for Kids Pennymeade Style: Affordable, practical, and prettier than ever!

We tend to throw the term resort wear around rather haphazardly, but did you know that in the fashion world, resort wear is an actual genre of clothing characterized by light weight wash and wear fabrics, often nautical-inspired themes, and ocean color palettes?  Resort wear for kids has actually become a style movement in and of itself.  From darling little girls’ sailor dresses to travel wear designed for chilly airplane climates, selective moms are finding that dressing their children for vacation, summer photographs, boating adventures or a fun-filled picnic is more fun and affordable than ever. Resort wear used to...

Matching Doll Dresses Encourage Imaginative Play for Little Mommies in a Big World

Matching doll dresses are nothing new, of course.  My sisters and I had them for our babies each Christmas when we were little girls – and they were magical.  That magic lives in my heart and in my home where, in addition to our two boys and two girls ranging in age from one to seven, we also have four little lovelies who are every bit a part of our family: Charlotte, Maggie, Patrice, and Brynn – our daughters’ American Girl dolls.   Charlotte, Maggie, Patrice and Brynn have never missed a holiday or a trip to Grandma and Grandpa’s. ...

Preppy Kids Clothes: Classic and timeless without being drab or dated

Maybe it’s because I was a child of the eighties, but I've always had a thing for preppy kids clothes.  You’ll see that signature style stamp all over our collections… monograms, rolled sleeves, classic collars.  The last few years have shown great style trends leaning in that direction once again and I've been on board as both a mommy and a stylist.  You’ll notice that our summer collection of polos, button down shirts, and rompers are infused with a bit of that perfectly preppy style melded with the classics for a look that is timeless without being dated or drab.  I...

Culture of Conscious Consumerism

It’s no wonder that our kids’ closets are jam packed. Over the years, clothing has become remarkably inexpensive while our world has become relatively deep-pocketed (even despite economic recession). The result ends up being not only closets full of cheaply-made, poorly constructed, “disposable” apparel, but more alarmingly, cheap labor – primarily young women – in faraway lands, working under deplorable conditions. I’m afraid there’s a lack of conscious consumerism in this country. I had many goals in mind when I created Pennymeade. Of course I wanted to dress my children beautifully, and I wanted to do so more affordably. But,...
